Short Biography For My Role Model: Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975. He grew up in Cypress, California, and soon became a legendary golfer. When he was born he was never the most talented, but through hard work at a young age, Tiger Woods had a swing better than many professionals. At age 21, he won his first tournament which caused many people to admire him and learn from him. Unfortunately, he had an injury that when he swung, he would feel a lot of pain. This caused him to lose many tournaments but even so, he was still famous for one thing: not giving up.
At a young age, Tiger Woods was committed to golf and accomplished many things. In the early stages, Tiger Woods’s dad, Earl Woods, taught him to play golf from the green to the tee. He even claimed that Tiger Woods’s swing was better than many Professional Golfers’ Association, also known as PGA golf players. Tiger took an interest in golf at a young age of six months, watching his father hit balls into a net and started copying his father’s swing. At age two, Tiger was on the Mike Douglas Show, a popular afternoon talk show, where he played golf with the entertainment legend, Bob Hope. Very few kids could have gotten to be on the show, much less get noticed by it. At age three, he shot 48 shots for nine holes, which is quite good considering that some teens cannot even get under the number 50. Though Earl helped Tiger a lot, it is also because of Tiger himself for working hard at a young age to become a professional golfer. He made a commitment to golf at age nine and told his dad, “I am going to be professionally excellent.”
At age 21, 1996, Tiger Woods achieved his commitment with his first win in the PGA golf tournament against the golf legend, Davis Love III. No one could beat Love in many years. Tiger Woods hit a tee shot next to the hole for the last hole, which gave him a perfect birdie, meaning he hit only two shots. It was not an easy win for Tiger Woods, considering that he was eight strokes behind the leaders after the first day. Even so, he quickly caught up and won. After this competition, hundreds of people believed in him and looked up to him. They also called it “The Greatest Moment In 100 Years” in golf.
Suddenly, his wins went downhill. He had severe pain in his back and legs. One swing would make him kneel on the floor in pain. Even so, Tiger Woods did not give up. Finally, in 11 years, he went back into the winners’ circle. Many people look up to him for not giving up and to continue fighting. Instead of “The Greatest Moment in 100 Years,” this time, they called it “The Greatest Comeback in the History of Sports.” Now, Tiger Woods is still playing golf, working as hard as he can.
Tiger Woods inspired many people to start working hard at an early age and not give up, despite the circumstances. People all over the world started idolizing him and other golfers.
